The creative artists of Berlin Mitte carry on without bar activities

The “Tacheles” group handed the keys of the Café Zapata, cinema and restaurant, for a compensation of one million Euros and left the occupied land for good. The tug of war over the best located parcel of land in Berlin Mitte is yet not over, since around 70 artists still live and work in the controversial house of art.

After the many demonstrations against its selling, the artistic work of Tacheles should return to the foreground, particularly with the play “5 soldiers”, which premiered yesterday. “The core of Tacheles is art and not politics”, communicated Chairman Martin Reiter, who had been at odds with the administration of the bar and restaurant at Tacheles for many years.

“Tacheles” is situated right next to the ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin and has evolved throughout the years into a complex integrated work of art. After the reunification of Berlin, Tacheles became a centre of development and realization of individual ways of thinking, of the creative contamination of art and living as well as the testing of artistically and urban ideas.

For Berlin, the “city of art”, Tacheles is an essential place for the production and presentation of contemporary art, which guests of the ARCOTEL Velvet enjoy all year round.
