DISCOVER THE VIBRANCY OF CONTEMPORARY VIENNA

You’ve already been to Vienna in the past and have seen all the magnificent imperial buildings? Then come with us and explore Vienna from a different angle. For as well as the historic buildings, there is another side to the city: Trendy clubs, young designer labels and modern architecture make Vienna a fascinating city that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity.

The best place to start exploring contemporary Vienna is the 7th district (Neubau), which is well known as a creative and trendy quarter that attracts visitors with a wide and varied range of things to do. After visiting the MuseumsQuartier, a centre of the arts that boasts well-known museums such as the Leopold Museum and the MUMOK, rummage through the second-hand shops in the Neubaugasse and get hold of a unique item of vintage clothing. In our opinion, the 7th district with its many hot fashion stores and boutiques can rightly be called a mecca for all fashion victims.

The 7th district of Vienna also brims with culinary diversity. Our favourite: Maschu Maschu. Maschu Maschu serves specialities from the Middle East. We highly recommend the tasty falafel – probably the best falafel in town.

But that’s enough of shopping and eating. Why not step out and turn the night into day. We recommend that night owls check out the Lutz club, which stands out with its international flair, vibrating club sound and state-of-the-art interior design.

We wish you LOTS of FUN exploring Vienna Neubau.

"Heaven can wait chor" at the St. Pauli Theater

Inspired by the American film "Young @ Heart", and the British band "The
Zimmer", whose oldish members not only inspire the Americans and British, the generation is also in this regional choir project of the St. Pauli Theater 70 + on stage and they want to rock. "This choir performs only hits from the past few decades, such as "Stayin 'Alive" by the Bee Gees, "die perfekte Welle" by Juli, "Gekommen um zu bleiben" by Wir sind Helden, "Smells Like Spirit" by Nirvana. They are nightly accompanied by a live band.

The musical manager Jan Christof itself is an all-rounder and knows the Hamburg music scene like no other.

KUNST & KULTUR (ART & CULTURE)

v.l.n.r. Weingut Collegium Wirtemberg, Sylvia Ernst,
Weingut Tschida Österreich,
Peter Leidig vom ARCOTEL Camino Stuttgart

Thursday, August 15, 2013

The “Kunst & Kultur” evening provided the third opportunity this year to celebrate a rich mix of art, wine, music and culinary delicacies. The winegrowers of the quarter were the Tschida vineyard from Apetlon in Austria and the Collegium Wirtemberg vineyard, while Rainer Hoffelner was the artist of the evening.

The author of the baby dictionary published by Langenscheidt, who has also featured in the Brockhaus multimedia edition with an entry as an outstanding artist and illustrator since 2001, brought a real sense of vitality to art during the evening. Together with guests, he created impressive pictures, which can be purchased from the BAR SCALA in the hotel.

The little ink drawings of figures, affectionately known as “little people”, are Hoffelner’s creations. They show ethereal, slender and dark figures floating against a luminous backdrop, as if they wished to leave all earthly matters behind them and vanish into the heavens. They show weird creatures creeping through the darkness, while comet-like forms try in vain to illuminate the area around them and which nevertheless succeed in lighting the shapeless creatures and putting them centre stage.
Rainer Hoffelner

Please note:
the next Kunst & Kultur evening will take place on
Thursday, 21 November 2013

Weingut Collegium Wirtemberg

The musical background will be provided by live music chosen to reflect the theme of the respective evening.

As your admission ticket and to taste the wines, you will be given a top-quality ARCOTEL Camino wine glass, which you are welcome to take home with you at the end of the evening. The price also includes a lavish ARCOTEL buffet featuring Swabian and Austrian delicacies. Please register in good time, since there is only a limited number of tickets available.

Tourist destinations in the Continental Croatia – 2nd part

If you are returning from the Adriatic coast and islands to Zagreb, make a short break at hotel ARCOTEL Allegra and enjoy the continental Croatian destinations which are located in its immediate vicinity. We have singled out the following tourist points that you must visit if you are in Zagreb. Not far from the Croatian capital get to know other tourist places that will surely fascinate you.

Varaždin city of old baroque architecture, squares and parks. Cultural and historical landmarks testify to its rich history. At the end of the 18th century, at the time of its greatest prosperity, the city of Varaždin was the Croatian capital where many Croatian noblemen, landowners, artists and craftsmen lived. Varaždin is known for its many events such as Špancirfest - festival of good emotions, Varaždin Baroque Evenings concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions and fairs. The city is known for its fort, which has preserved its appearance of a typical Renaissance-Gothic fortress, and in it the Cultural Department of the Varaždin City Museum located there since 1925. Visit Varaždin and return for one moment to a very distant past.

Trakošćanfor all nature lovers we recommend a visit to the Bednja area in the northwestern part of the Croatian Zagorje. In addition to green hills, meadows, vineyards, orchards you will be captivated by the famous castle Trakošćan - the pearl of the Croatian Zagorje dating back to the 13th century and one of the most popular excursion sites of the Continental Croatia. The Trakošćan Castle is one of the most beautiful ones and one of the few facilities in Croatia with their own preserved material. The objects date from the 15th to the 19th century. A recognizable feature of Trakošćan is an artificial lake and a landscaped park. This trip will surely remain in your memory for a long time.

Samobor-old town with a preserved old urban core and one of the most popular resorts is only about 30 minutes away from the Croatian capital. Significant place in the northwestern Croatian tourism is certainly owed to the long history of the town, its rich cultural heritage and attractive surroundings. The ruins of the large old town from the 13th century which was abandoned during the 19th century are located above the town. Near the central square is the Livadić castle from 1764, which today hosts the Samobor Museum. Nearby Samobor there are many well-marked hiking trails and many beautifully decorated mountain homes. One of the most important events in the wider area is the Samobor Carnival (Mardi Gras). Samobor custard slices (kremšnite) are one of the most popular desserts in Croatia.

Krapina - interesting tourist destination, a fortified city which was first mentioned in a written document from the 12th century. Historic urban core of Krapina is preserved even today. The main streets are filled with numerous shops, boutiques, various shops and restaurants that lure the passer-by  with its rich offer. The town is famous for the site "Krapina Neanderthal" so-called Homo crapiniensis. The Neanderthal Museum is one of the most modern museums in Croatia and the region. It will enchant you with an interesting story about the life and culture of the Krapina Neanderthal, numerous multimedia and other content as well as special architecture of this unique museum.

Shopping in the capital!

In August, we treat ourselves to some extra “shopping time”. We simply grab a few friends and then head off to Berlin, as this is where we can really find everything our hearts can possibly desire: from Armani to second-hand, from art to unique souvenirs and even exotic gourmet delicacies from all over the world!

Shopping at KaDeWe is just amazing, as it is highly unlikely that you can ask for anything here and be told that it’s unavailable. The famous “department store of the West” scores with a vast range of luxury goods. In addition to luxurious beauty-rooms and beauty-lounges, Germany’s best-known department store offers a wedding and gift service as well as a hotel and home service! From made-to-measure clothing to hairdressing, from buggy hire to currency exchange, KaDeWe comes top in every respect. Up to 180,000 customers from all over the world can be found milling around the store’s 60,000 m² area very day – where they are served by approximately 2,000 assistants. Customer-focus and an excellent service for each individual are paramount – and this has now been the case for over 100 years. KaDeWe is known internationally as the largest temple to consumerism on the European continent and is mentioned in the same breath as renowned department stores such as “Harrods” in London. http://www.kadewe.de/

When shopping in Berlin, another place that is well worth a visit is “Galeries Lafayette”. This store, covering four storeys, is a showcase for the dazzling world of fashion: apart from the leading international fashion brands, you can also find exciting new designers from Prenzlauer Berg. “Galeries Lafayette” calls itself “the secret French embassy” in Berlin. It ascribes this to the department store’s history: it ventured to Berlin in 1996 and opened its first German branch in Friedrichstraße, at the corner of Französische Straße (French Street) – only a few minutes’ walk from the ARCOTEL John F Berlin. With “Galeries Lafayette” as the anchor tenant, the glass temple designed by France’s leading architect Jean Nouvel was the first real sign of life in the Friedrichstadtpassagen.

Inspired gifts from Berlin!

Anybody who is looking for that really special gift will find precisely the right one with the “BREATH OF BERLIN” series of perfumes. It’s not just the look that’s so appealing but also the bottle: “A fragrance that is as lively and multi-facetted as its city – a city that never stops but is constantly evolving.” And even better, the unusual perfume bottles are real works of art – made from glass! With the Berlin TV Tower, “BREATH OF BERLIN” incorporates THE symbol of the capital, making the perfume a perfect souvenir! You can buy the men’s and women’s fragrances in the TV Tower shop for example.

"BREATH OF BERLIN"
You can also find unusual souvenirs in the Kreuzberg shop “boxoffberlin” - or “bob”, to use the more familiar abbreviated form, close to Checkpoint Charlie. Its unique selling point is that all its products and gift articles are made by Berlin-based designers, producers and artists. Here, you can find fine art, drawings and other original works of art produced by Berlin-based artists as well as postcards, photos and original t-shirts. Its small but excellent book department, which specialises in books about Berlin and street art, is also very impressive. Our favourite souvenir from “bob” is the capital city coffee “Berliner Bohne” and the cookie cutter in the shape of the Brandenburger Tor. (bob – boxoffberlin | Zimmerstraße 11 | 10969 Berlin)

The ART-DOMINO® gallery is located close to the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin, directly opposite our second hotel in Berlin, the ARCOTEL John F Berlin. Inspired by the world’s most beautiful cities, such as the German capital, it produces inimitable series of stylised pictures showing the world’s most famous landmarks and tourist attractions. Each picture is unique and each single image/colour combination is only produced once. The use of small-scale formats results in fantastic individual pieces, which can be individually adjusted, changed or enlarged. A wonderful souvenir of your visit to the capital!
