Summer Cinema in Vienna

Temperatures have started rising again and people are heading outdoors. many Viennese like to enjoy the summery temperatures in one of the city´s eleven open-air cinemas. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a couple of them:

Cinema on the Rooftop


The most attractive roof in Vienna was awarded the litle of Vienna's highest open-air cinema for the tenth time in 2013 and it's only a few minutes' walk from the ARCOTEL Wimberger Vienna. This year's programme with the title, "Cinema on the Rooftop 2013 - DON'T PANIC It'll all be fine!" features international film highlights and movies that proved popular both at festivals and with audiences. Among the Films showing from 28th June to 8th September are "Silver Linings", "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" and "The Intouchables".

Cinema under the Stars


The open-air cinema on Karlsplatz is showing free movies every day from 26th June to 20th July. As always, the programme focuses on Austrian films, this year under the motto: TOWARD THE FUTURE and includes films such as "Talea" and "Grenzgänger", as well as classics like "Hallo Dienstmann".

frame[o]ut - Summer Cinema in the MuseumsQuartier


This year frame[o]ut is offering free screenings of documentary films, feature films and international short films under the open sky as part of the "Summer in the MQ" festival. The films are shown every Friday and Saturday between 12th July and 31st August. The programme includes movies from the United Kingdom such as "The Chemical Brothers: Don't Think" and Austrian films like "Elektro Moskva".

Vienna´s summer cinemas have something for everyone, wheter you are a die-hard cineaste or not and you have to admit, it´s much easier to relax at the end of the day under clear starry sky.
