A Culinary Puzzle …

Every year when wild garlic comes into season again you know that it won’t be long until another culinary favourite is back on the table again.
It can be green or white, thick or thin, long or short. You can boil it, grill it, steam it, mash it or fry it.
Have you guessed which seasonal vegetable we are talking about?

We’ll give you one more clue: For those of you who are counting calories, it is THE vegetable par excellence.
You’ve probably guessed by now. The vegetable behind all these facts is asparagus!

There are countless ways of serving asparagus apart from in the well-known fashion with potatoes and sauce hollandaise. If you fancy trying something different, you can use asparagus to make risotto, serve it as soup, make a sauce out of it or use it as an ingredient in a refreshing salad.
If you would prefer someone else to do the cooking for you, then dining out at our WIMBERGERs wia z'Haus restaurant is doubly rewarding at the moment. Our current menu not only includes the universally popular asparagus, we’re also offering fresh strawberries creatively prepared by our kitchen brigade to bring out their full flavour.

Our executive chef recommends …

Have you invited friends for a meal but don’t know what to cook for them? Have relatives said they are coming to see you on Sunday and you want to offer them a fantastic meal as well as the pleasure of your company?
If so, we’ve got the perfect solution!

Creamy veal goulash with gnocchi
Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 kg veal (shoulder cut)
200g onions
2 tsp paprika powder (sweet)
1 tbsp. tomato paste
250 ml whipped cream
20 g maizena
125 ml white wine
Salt, pepper, 1 bay leaf
1/16 litre oil (to brown)

Gnocchi Dough:
300 g flour (sponge flour)
3 eggs
150-200 ml milk (depending on the consistency of the dough)
Salt, pepper, nutmeg

Preparation:

Cut the meat into bite-size cubes and dice the onions. Heat the oil in a pan and then lightly brown the onions. Stir in the tomato paste, add the paprika powder and deglaze with wine. Add water. Add the bay leaf, salt and pepper and leave to simmer for approx. 15 minutes. Add the meat, stew until tender over a low heat for approx. 90 minutes. Remove the meat from pan when tender. Add a little cold water to the maizena and stir to a smooth paste; add to the sauce. Put the meat back into the pan and briefly heat again. Season with salt and pepper.

To make the gnocchi dough, mix the eggs with the flour and milk, adding a pinch of salt, pepper and nutmeg to season.
Bring salt water to the boil and press the dough through a sieve. Boil until the gnocchi float to the surface. Quench with cold water so that they do not form clumps. Melt butter in a pan and toss the gnocchi in it.
Serve and enjoy!

“Dancer against Cancer”– The ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Vienna Helps Too

To mark the 25th birthday of ARCOTEL Hotels, we’re taking a look back at some of the things we have accomplished over the years. Take a walk down memory lane with us and enjoy some exciting stories and anecdotes from everyday life at our hotels!

In March 2009 the third “Dancer against Cancer”charity ball in aid of the Austrian Cancer Society was held at the Austria Center Vienna. Dr. Renate Wimmer, the owner of ARCOTEL Hotels had volunteered to act as a judge. Thanks to the many generous guests, the event raised a total of EUR 40,000 and one month later a cheque for this amount was presented to the Austrian Cancer Society at the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser by the ball organiser Yvonne Rueff.

Manfred Mayer, CEO of ARCOTEL Hotel AG, declared, "We are pleased that we can make a contribution to helping the Austrian Cancer Society and are delighted to make our house available for this very special evening. Once again the culinary delights from the AROCTEL kitchen were created by our award-winning chef Johann Schwarz and his team.”

A host of prominent guests, including most of the former “Dancing Stars” participants, came to the presentation of the cheque: Ulrike Beimpold (cabaret star), Hans-Georg Heinke (former TV presenter), Toni Polster (former footballer), Michaela Schimanko-Stiedl (owner of the Edenbar) and Ingrid Turkovic-Wendl (former ice-skater and TV presenter. Katrin Lampe, the well-known TV presenter, hosted the evening.

ARCOTEL guests are warmly welcomed by passionate hosts!

The entire team of the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser constantly persues to ensure that our guests have a nice and pleasant stay. Knowing that our guests are happy and satisfied is the perfect reward.

It makes us cheerful to read feedback letters like this from a Czech guest:

Excerpt:
"In reference to my present stay at ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser in Vienna, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation to the great and outstanding service we have experienced with your staff members...

... the name of this lady is Ms. Sabine Rennich and the gentleman Zaldy Villa. This lady has proven that it is still possible nowadays to approach customers with the outstanding perfect hotel service. Mr. Villa was a great help as well when we were asking about the tourist attractions in the area.

... Ms. Rennich was able to help us and serve our needs within a few minutes. This is something what we really appreciate! Her friendly, but very professional approach was really great. I travel very often, but did not meet for a quite long time such a professional staff member as she is! I really appreciate that you have such great staff members! Wish, each hotel in the world would have such nice, organized and helpful staff members as Ms. Rennich and Mr. Villa are.

... I am sure next time I visit Vienna, I will come back to your hotel! ..."
