Imperial summer

Experiencing nature at the heart of the metropolis

The ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser is situated opposite of the UNO City and the Austria Center Vienna, Vienna’s conference center. The 4-star-superior-hotel fits harmoniously into the skyline of Vienna and combines, due to its unique location, nature and urbanity. Thus, the hotel is the ideal starting point for business people, families as well as city tourists.

Especially families appreciate the location of the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser at the recreational area of the Old Danube, which is one of the most popular destinations for excursions in Vienna and deeply rooted in the city's history. In earlier times, the so-called Kaiserwasser, a branch of the Danube River,  has been used to drive the mills of the empire and therefore, was given the name "Kaiserwasser-Imperial water".

Since spring 2012, the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser offers its guests a particular highlight: a hotel-owned dock that offers tourists direct access to the Kaiserwasser and gives them the opportunity to relax and enjoy the warm summer days at the Danube. On request, we can organize paddle boats or stand-up paddling events for your next company outing.

Only a few minutes walk away from the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser, the famous lido "Gänsehäufel" is located. Since the visit of Rainhard Fendrich, a famous Austrian musician, the "Gänsehäufel" has become an institution in Vienna and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy relaxing hours at the beach or at one of the numerous outdoor pools. The many playgrounds, water slides or beach-volleyball courts are an extra highlight for children.

Action enthusiasts and all those that want to prove their skills and coordination in great height, may want to visit the high-ropes-course at the "Gänsehäufel". With a great variety of challenges, the high-ropes-course at the "Gänsehäufel" is the biggest one in Vienna.

Wax, or real life

On the Spielbudenplatz, just a few minutes' walk from the ARCOTEL Onyx in Hamburg, you will find the Panoptikum, one of the oldest waxworks in Germany. It was established in 1879 by Friedrich Hermann Faerber and is now managed by the fourth generation of the family in the shape of Dr. Hayo Faerber.

130 years ago, wax figures of famous people, including criminals and rare sights such as "dwarves" and "giants", were the only way for many people to actually see these persons first-hand. Most of the press was just text, no pictures, and all other media had yet to be invented.
The Panoptikum is the only wax museum from this time that is still in operation. However, there are not only historical figures on display, the exhibits are constantly expanded with new additions, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Lena Meyer-Landrut or Robbie Williams.
Of course, situated on "Spielbudenplatz" the link to the Reeperbahn and St. Pauli is important. Here you can meet local legends such as Anita Niehoff, who was known as "Domenica", not to mention Hans Albers and Freddy Quinn. And Udo Lindenberg, or his wax double, invites you to come and meet him on his beloved "Geile Meile" (Sin Street).

One very interesting part of the exhibition is where they show you how the waxworks are made. It takes between nine and twelve months for the artists and sculptors to create a new figure. These hand-made "works of art" are made with an eye for detail in many small, individual steps.

Visiting the Panoptikum is by all means a fantastic experience for both young and old.
And there's only one rule: don't leave your camera at home!

Did you know...?

...that the postcard has Carinthian roots!

The first postcard was created by Emanuel Herrmann, relative of the former hotel owners, the Moser family.

To keep the postcard, which has become a popular holiday souvenir, from falling into oblivion, the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino offers its own postcard collection.

Every year, the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino collection grows by one postcard depicting contemporary Carinthian art. Thus, young local artists are given the opportunity to present their work.

The following postcards can be purchased at the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino:

• Postcard of 2012
"Fremder Verkehrsort Favela 5" by Richard Klammer

• Postcard of 2011

First rays of sunshine

The moment has come, spring is knocking on the door! After a long, cold winter, spring has come again. Temperatures are rising, enticing a myriad of people to enjoy their first spring coffee in the sun and fresh air. Warm weather, which we have all awaited, has finally arrived – a time when everything wakes up and blossoms. The first rays of sunshine and the chirping of the birds banish the winter gloominess, anger and stress. First spring feelings emerge and good mood is almost tangible in the air. It is a season  when many towns are beautiful, and a time when choosing to visit the Croatian capital is the best decision of all.

The traditional opening of the season commences at Easter. Hotel ARCOTEL Allegra has once again prepared a number of offers this year which allow you to experience the city and its surroundings. Enjoy the spring in numerous colourful Zagreb parks adjacent to the hotel ARCOTELAllegra. The (unbelievable) double

After difficult times of austerity and waiting for the date, this year's Hotelcareer Cup took place on 10 March 2013 in Stuttgart. Although the ARCOTEL Camino had trained continuously for the entire year and were also playing the difficult role of favourites, one or two doubtful feelings still reared their ugly heads. How would it go in 2013? Would we meet our expectations and those of our fans?

In drizzly weather, we set out on our way to the Soccer Olymp in Fellbach, where we had been devotedly training for days beforehand. We had a whole host of fans with us from the director to the interns – everyone was represented to support us in our mission to defend the title.

In the first game, we played Mercure Hotel Stuttgart City Center. The war-like black shirts combined with a few really good players and last year's close victory made us stop and think. So we didn't exactly go into this game expecting a win. We didn't dominate from the start, but quickly took the lead making it 1-0. This was just the beginning. We become more confident, although this did mean that we committed one or two fouls. We made up for this, though, and the final score was 2-0. We had cleared the first hurdle.

In the second game we met the other team we were afraid of even though we hadn't played them before. The Le Méridien Stuttgart. A difficult and very tight task, but we were still able to win the match 1-0. Six points were already a good lead.

In the meantime, our fans supported us by doing all of the things that a real fan needs to do to increase morale. Home-made pom-poms, Camino flags and loud cheering were just a small part of the consistent support from our group of fans. They also gave us relaxing massages, provided us with drinks and were simply there for us.

Next we faced the Park Inn by Radisson. Maybe it was the good business cooperation with them that meant we didn't want to get one over on them, but at least by that point we had decided that one point each was also perfectly fine, and the game ended 3-3.

Our final opponent was the Holiday Inn. The statisticians among you may have worked out that with a draw and two wins we would definitely be in the semi-final. Wrong. We needed at least a draw to be certain of winning the group, as Le Méridien and the Mercure Hotel Stuttgart City Center had played really well against the Holiday Inn and beaten them by a large number of goals. When we were 2-1 down just a short while into the game, we had to stop and take a breath, shake ourselves off and then really throw ourselves into it again. It was all or nothing. But then everything went well and we beat the Holiday Inn 6-3. Ten points from four games. We felt that that was a really good result.

The Maritim Hotel, the NH Hotel, the Mercure Hotel and us, the ARCOTEL Camino, were in the semi-final. We had to play against the NH Hotel, and played better than we had done at any point in the tournament. We were concentrated and confident, and won the match 3-0. Unfortunately we also suffered some injuries in the game, above all to our best striker, Bilal Ghazi. In the changing rooms later, our opponent said "our colleague's job was to mark him the whole time, but we'd completely forgotten that on the other side of the pitch there was someone else who was also good with the ball and could score." Yep, you can easily be deceived. But they fought bravely.

WE were in the FINAL! AGAIN! Incredible. It was also incredible that we had to play the Mercure Hotel again. If they'd got this far, they must have got even better, and they definitely had. Both teams, exhausted by this point, gave their all. One – nil. Two – nil just a short time later. We were in the game. Everything was going well until a free kick was given against us just before time, and our opponents scored. It was very close. The clock ticked and the team in black kept running against our defence. Micha, who had been one of the best players in the team throughout the tournament, kept clearing the ball away from the goal from all positions. Then it was over. Over! The ARCOTEL Camino WON the Hotelcareer Cup 2013. Who would have thought it?

The team managed the DOUBLE! It was an all round successful day. THANKS to Sandro, Patrick, Ajet (the best player in the tournament), Youssif, Bilal (top scorer), Micha, Mohamed and Peter, the players in our team. The team would also like to thank the FANS who supported us so brilliantly. We're off to Düsseldorf! To be continued...

Half the distance, twice the pleasure!

In a nutshell, sport returns to Berlin with a bang on 7 April 2013 with the staging of the largest German half-marathon in the capital city, the “33rd Vattenfall BERLIN HALF-MARATHON". This popular sports day has evolved in recent years into a huge event, attracting 30,000 registered runners in 2013, more than ever before

Following the motto “Half the distance, twice the pleasure”, this year a 21,0975 km route awaits the runners again, starting and finishing on Karl-Marx-Allee. The route takes the runners through “Unter den Linden” and “Straße des 17. Juni“ to Charlottenburg Palace, and from there over Kurfürstendamm and Potsdamer Platz back to the finishing line.

To make the half-marathon a resounding success, we are organising one of our famous “Pasta Parties” on the evening before the run in our FOREIGN AFFAIRS restaurant. The varied buffet on offer is a sure-fire way to build up glucose stores in the muscles, thereby triggering the so-called “carboloading effect” – this helps runners prepare for the half-marathon in the best possible way. Indulge yourself in the world of penne, spaghetti et al, and enjoy delicacies such as:

- Penne rigate all'arrabbiata and rucola
- Capelletti pasta with turkey breast strips, taleggio and leek
- Lime salmon in a Limoncello sauce with carrots and fondant potatoes
