Harley-Davidson Charity Tour 2012

 

The ARCOTEL Nike was very happy to welcome more than 100 Harley-Davidson bikers during their anual charity tour supporting children with muscular disease on 13th, August.

This biker event takes place since 1996 and in the meantime is one of the most popular in Austria, supported by numerous of Austrian celebrities. 

As every year the bikers raise donations for needy people, especially children who suffer from muscular dystrophy.

It was a pleasure for the team of the ARCOTEL Nike to assist this event and everybody enjoyed the view in front of the hotel.

Art & Culture vernissage on 09.08.2012

On Thursday 9th August 2012 in ARCOTEL Rubin the new Art & Culture series was opened with a vernissage. Our guests were shown selected works by Jürgen Bätz and Rainer Jäger. The new exhibition forms the start of our collaboration with the HostenStall art gallery.

A glance at the pictures displayed here by the Hamburg artist Jürgen Bätz shows the variety of colours that we find in nature. Sandy yellow and beige tones contrast with blues and violets, reds gradually darken into a rust-brown which sometimes looks almost black. At first they appear to be abstract compositions, but they are actually exact observations from nature of layers of earth, rock formations and volcanic structures. The Canary Islands were a definitive source of inspiration for the artist and prompted his fascination with prehistoric rocks and evolution. Part of the pictures’ particular aesthetic charm is their textured surface. This presents an authentic image of the colours, fissures, details and layers in the earth, rock and stones. His fascination is not just limited to this genre of painting – he also creates abstract compositions and representations of sensitive, tormented, incomplete and clumsy people.

Rainer Jäger, born in Hamburg, has been creating artistic works since he was very young, initially mostly in wood, then in stone, particularly in diabase and marble. Abstraction is a distinguishing characteristic of his work. A perfect surface and uniform shape are important to him. He studied under Piere Weber at the Fine Arts summer academy in Trier and throughout his career has already had various solo and group exhibitions both here and abroad.

Following the successful start of this impressive entertainment show in 2011, this year the history of the famous art of burlesque dancing is celebrated once again. Jack Woodhead has been enthusiastic about burlesque dancing for years, and became famous by performing in England, Berlin and New York as a cabaret soloist. The British-born man currently lives in Berlin and is running a programme of shows every evening this week as part of the burlesque contest. The highlight of the four-day event is the final of the contest on Saturday 14 July 2012. The three winners will be chosen by burlesque celebrities such as Beatrix von Bourbon, LaLaVox and Lady Lou, and will be presented with goodies like photo shoots, workshops and cash prizes.

Host Jack Woodhead found a top quality location in the Comedy Club "Kookaburra": in 2002, an extraordinary cabaret stronghold grew up in an old branch of a bank, and has now become an integral part of the Berlin cultural scene.
